Welcome to St. Catherine of Siena Preschool. We are glad to have you as part of our family and proud that you will share your child with us during this very important time in their lives.
The preschool years, ages 2 – 5, are special years in the life of young children. It is during these years that they learn to trust persons outside their family, gain independence and self-control, begin to take initiative and be assertive, and grow out of the limited vocabulary of toddlers. The children learn to become keen observers of the world around them and experiment with tools, objects and materials never before at their disposal. In addition the children are growing and gaining weight and strength to test their agility and coordination.
Four areas of development are the emphasis in the preschool classroom: social/emotional, cognitive, physical, and language. Through play and many hands-on experiences, the children gain life skills which prepare them for their educational journey in life.
For 2-year-old children, our preschool employs best practices which use the interplay of nature and nurture, children’s culture and family life, development of rhythm, language, social interaction. 2-year-olds learn by hands-on experiences, trial and error, repetition, and imitation. The teachers provide an array of experiences which respond to the particular needs and development of children in this important time.
We respect parents as the primary care providers and believe that parents and teachers are partners in children’s care and education.
The center’s office is open each weekday from 8:00a.m. – 2:00p.m. We would be happy to show you our center and introduce you to the staff.
